Children and Youth Day has created lifetime memories for our keiki, 'ōpio and families, as well as opportunities for family members to connect with one another and other families. It also serves as a wonderful community resource to educate families about services that are available in our State in a fun-filled and life changing way. Over the years, our event has grown tremendously and has now become one of the largest community celebrations in the State. In 2018, approximately 40,000 people attended the event.
Children and Youth Day are constantly on the lookout for volunteers to provide much needed support. Each year we anticipate between 2,000-3,000 volunteers needed to help with everything from general physical labor, assembly of goodie bags, event set-up, event day greeters and counters, receive new donations, parking attendants, photographers, etc.

Q: How do I become a volunteer?
A: Register online and select a volunteer category or categories to get started. Once registered, you will be contacted by a CYD Planning Committee member in that oversees the volunteer category/categories you selected to arrange and schedule your support.
Q: What are the requirements to be a volunteer?
A: Volunteers can be of any age and either an individual, family or group. Certain volunteer categories do have certain physical requirements such as standing for long periods, walking, assembling, etc. Details will be communicated to the registered volunteer(s) by the CYD Planning Committee member.
Q: Can students of all ages get school credit for their service to CYD?
A: Yes, absolutely.
Q: How can I contribute to the success of CYD?
A: Donating new items for the goodie bags that infants, toddlers, elementary-age children, and teenagers would enjoy are welcome. Also, businesses or non-profit organizations who want to offer 14,000 coupons for free entry to children- and teen-appropriate events, coupons for free food and refreshment, gift cards and other cool activities that support positive, fun, and educational experiences for Hawaii's young people would be appreciated. All donations can be delivered to Davies Hall at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019. If you have questions, please feel free to call Susie Chun Oakland at 778-9146.
Q: How can I become a part of the CYD Planning Committee?
A: The Children and Youth Day Planning Committee consists of various volunteers and sponsors who have come together to make this all possible. Each month we meet to discuss agenda topics coordinated by the CYD Chairperson. Topics include budget, logistics, manpower, improvements, execution and status updates.
Q: What is a CYD Chair or Co-Chair?
A: Children and Youth Day is a huge event and is made possible by many volunteers, sponsors and participants. Within the CYD Planning Committee are Chairs who oversee certain CYD Categories that require a focal point to organize and execute tasks for desired outcomes and objectives. If you are interested in becoming a Chair or Co-Chair, please contact CYD’s fiscal administrator at (808) 262-3651 or email@example.com. We’d be happy to discuss what support is needed.
Q: What hours are available for volunteering for Goody Bag assembly?
A: Goody bag preparation occurs at Davies Hall on the campus of the Cathedral of Saint Andrew from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for the two weeks leading up to the CYD event (September 23 to 27 and September 30 to October 4, 2019). If you are a group of volunteers or an individual wanting to assist with putting together goodies for the children and teens who will be attending CYD, you are welcome to come any time during these days and times. Please call CYD Chairperson Susie Chun Oakland at 778-9146 to inform her of what days and times you plan to come.
Q: I wish to volunteer for multiple categories. Is this possible?
A: Yes you can sign up to volunteer for multiple categories. Chairs for each volunteer category will contact you before the CYD orientation date, which is Friday, September 6, 2019. If you have not heard from the respective Chairs by this time, please contact us at 262-3651 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: My children would like to volunteer. Can they help CYD?

These opportunities underscore their valuable contributions to community; encourage the spirit of giving from the heart; and support leadership, organizational, social, and other life skills that are important in their lives.
